I started Choi Kwang Do under the instruction of Derek & Karen Bicknell the founders and owners of Hampshire CKD. I was particularly impressed by the training methodology and the friendly family training environment. This provided me with a focused fitness regime enabling me to significantly improve my personal fitness, lose weight, increase flexibility and improve motor skills and balance.
Having recognised the health benefits of CKD and so impressed with the scientific training principles I decided to take on the role of Chief Instructor at “Choikwangdo4health”, so that I was able to share the many benefits of CKD with others.
I began Choi Kwang Do in September 2011 after 6 weeks of watching my 7yr old son (now 8) training & enjoying this unique martial art under the instruction of Sabumnim Greg Evans, Chief Instructor at Choikwangdo4health. I was impressed from what I saw & decided to give it a go & probably one of the best decisions I have ever made & now able to spend more time with my son.
If someone had told me 11 months ago that I would be an assistant instructor, orange belt senior going for my green (August 2012)…I would never have believed them! Not to mention losing weight, increasing my fitness & stamina, so here I am, completely hooked & can’t get enough.
Choikwangdo4health & Sabumnim Evans have given myself & son a fantastic opportunity to train and progress further in what is no doubt the best & fastest growing martial art in the world, My son’s confidence has improved greatly & recently took part in his schools talent show doing Choi Kwang Do “freestyle”) in front of his year group & year 6, a year ago he would not even go into assembly! Recently Sabumnim Evans has promoted him to “Black belt Academy” which has given him another massive boost to his self-esteem!
With the Drills, P.A.C.E (progressive accelerating cardiopulmonary exertion) & techniques that every class incorporates i'm left feeling refreshed & invigorated & looking forward to my next session which isn’t to far as there are many classes to choose from.
On a final note, I have made some very good friends through Choi & can honestly say it’s like having a huge family, there is no competition, no need to feel shy or embarrassed as everyone from instructors to students are helpful & kind, So come along & join us…..you will thank us the day you did.

I was introduced to CKD4Health by a friend who spoke of this NEW Martial Art. I've been here for nearly 4 years, and the more I train the more addicted I become. Within a year I became an AI and when I achieved Black Belt I became part of the Head Instructor team of which I am very proud and honoured. From Mr. Evans (my mentor and friend) I have learned so much and still can't believe at 42 I can achieve so much more. With hard work, discipline and respect for our Pledge and Principles and the unwavering support from the Choi family I will continue with my journey. Since I started I have recommended CKD to so many people and I enjoy training and instructing and watching all students journeys. If you wish to learn self defence, better yourself get fit and meet so many great people of all ages there is only one option for you, I hope to train with you soon.

I began my Choi Kwang Do journey in September 2015 after watching my husband train for three months. I remember feeling so very nervous on my first training class because I suffer from a back condition that gives me limited flexibility and causes pain, but the Instructors and fellow students were so very welcoming and it was such a friendly environment.
At the beginning my only aspirations for CKD were to improve my fitness, self defence and to enjoy a hobby with my Husband. However, only a few months in I was hooked and there was a noticeable improvement in my health, fitness and flexibility, in turn my usual aches and pains were going.
In April 2016 Sabumnim Evans asked both my husband and myself if we would join the Assistant Instructors Team, we were deeply honoured and very happy to except the challenge. Since then I have had the pleasure of watching fellow students go from white belt up to yellow belt senior and it is very rewarding to know that we, as Instructors, have been there to watch their progression and journey. The fact that Choi Kwang Do is a non-competitive martial arts makes such a difference, everyone here started their journey for their own personal reasons, we set our own targets for personal and physical development and the Instructors are here to assist you in reaching your goals.
Choi Kwang Do has changed mine and my family’s life, we have made some great friends and it very much feels like one big family, not just within our Dojang, but across the Choi Kwang Do world.

After becoming a father for the first time in my early forties I was looking for a hobby that would keep me fit and improve my quality of life. In the past I had tried different things and got bored quite quickly, so after talking to Sabumnim Evans about Choi Kwang Do I was intrigued and in May 2015 I walked through the door of the Dojang for my free trial lesson. Straight away I was amazed how friendly and welcoming everybody was and I soon realised that there was no egos, everybody from white belt to 3rd degree black belts were there on their own personal journey. After 2 lessons I signed up and put on my Dobok for the first time and I've never looked back.
Being a full time Dojang it gives me the opportunity to train a couple of times a week which would normally be impossible due to work commitments.
Three months after I started my wife also joined and we now train together. It is a great place for families to train together and the diversity of students is fantastic, one minute I can be training with a five year old next a seventy eight year old in the same class.
If you are looking to get fit and improve your health with the added bonus of learning a practical self defence martial art then Choi Kwang Do is for you.
Come along and try a free lesson, I'm sure you will be hooked just like I am. It really is a martial art for life.
Look forward to seeing you in the Dojang soon.
